best Santa

I love the Coca Cola Co. Santa.  You can read all about him here, but these are a few pictures.

Did you know the modern day Santa was shaped by these advertisements?  The red coat, beard and jolly belly- all became the norm because of these widely seen illustrations.

Another holiday icon we own to merchandising is Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.  He was a creation of a Montgomery Ward copywriter, Robert L. May.  (full story) He was asked to create a story to go in the coloring books they gave away at Christmas in 1939.  The song came along a few years later, written by May’s brother-in-law, Johnny Marks.

That’s it for now folks.  Check back in soon for all the Christmas-trivia-you-didn’t-really-want-to-hear-as-early-as-Labor-Day

The comic strip For Better or for Worse apparently ran their last new strip today. We’d heard the creator, Lynn Johnson was going to retire for a while now, but looks like it’s final now. Her last strip, run today, says that they’re going to start the whole thing over again (29 years long!). It will be neat to see the old strips, I don’t think I’ve read many of the early ones.

Sam and I went to the park to play yesterday, and I got some great pictures.  You can see them all in the Picasa album, but here are a few of my favorites.

First thing he did when we got there- picked up a piece of the “cushioning” wood chips they use under the playground equipment.  He stood right back up, so I thought he was just going to run around with it, but then POP- right in his mouth.  It did not taste good, and he didn’t try it again, but the taste apparently lingered into this picture.

He ran around touching and “counting” these trees- we count a lot of stuff.  (gibberish numbers, but he seems to get the concept, also “counts” his fingers)

So much fun trying to outrun Mommy!

He fits right under the bridge.  Mommy does not.

Having such a good time. :-)

Back at home, with a little popsicle on his face.  Too hot outside!

First off, I have the best husband in the world.  Yesterday after work, he stopped and got me tomatoes, burritos, and Krispy Kreme donuts!  All cravings I’ve been having, and he thought of it as a surprise too!  Am I the luckiest pregnant woman or what?  :-)

And in other foodie goodness, I tried something new today, and am lovin’ it- hummus!  I’ve been hearing such great things about it, so we picked some up at the grocery store this weekend.  Took me a little bit to get my courage up, and to figure out what to put it on (toasted bagel, cut in pieces).  And it was yum-tastic.   Has a bit of a mustard tang to it?  (probably the lemon juice?)  Also reminds me of the ranch & pickles I put on a veggie Subway sandwich.  Mmmm, must try it like that too.

Other than all that, things are good.  Been having some rain here, which has cooled things off nicely.  Sam’s doing great… he ate with a fork the other day!  Seemed to like spearing the bread, easier than using those darn spoons.  He’s also seeming to pick up more specific words.  Or maybe we’re just figuring out the code better.  :-p

I have another dr. appt. on the 3rd, and and ultrasound to boot.  I’ll be almost 13 weeks.  Too early to tell boy or girl, but the baby should look more baby-like than s/he did last time.

That’s it for now folks.  Thanks for checking in.

Any of you still use a phone book?  I know I don’t, so I signed up here, at YellowPagesGoesGree.org.  Supposed to make them stop delivering them to you.  I’m not real sure that it’ll work, but it’s worth a shot, right?

I love it that all the articles about Obama choosing Biden as his running mate say things like:

The Associated Press reported on August 22, 2008, that Biden had been chosen by Barack Obama to be his running mate, citing anonymous Democratic Party sources. The choice was confirmed via text message at 2:45 a.m. EDT.

Makes me do a double take every time (text message, wha?), even though I received it too.  Don’t you love the world we live in?  :-)

New favorite place!  Solely because they’re the first ones to indulge my holiday frenzy.  Sorta.

Got a Popcorn Factory catalog in the mail, with Halloween goods!

These popcorn balls are calling to me…

And this Pop Cornucopia (if you will) lends itself to Thanksgiving well…

So there you have it folks… it is approximately 70 days till the start of the season (day after Halloween, don’t push me), and the retailers are on my side.  :-)   So you might as well give in and start decking the halls, and join me in a chorus of ‘Jingle Bells’.  And help me hunt down some egg nog, or at least add your name to a petition to get Starbucks to bring out the red cups early.

Fa la la la la… la la… la… LA!  :-D

Bored?  Me?  nah….

Go tranquilize some sheep.

(point is to test your response time, in the vein that it goes down when you’re tired.)

Some other interesting stuff on that site, if you’re tired as well as bored.

The Face Memory Quiz was very interesting.  Try it, if you have 5 minutes to kill in between each of 3 parts.  My recognition was 95% (92% is the average), and my Temporal memory was 91% (average is 68%).  And that’s at like midnight-thirty!

Hm, guess I should go to bed, huh?  ‘Night all!
